Herbert Willis Hemmings, 93, of Meyersdale, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on June 2, 2024. Born January 26, 1931 in Summit Mills, the son of Dallas Melvin and Ellen (Firl) Hemmings. Preceded in death by his parents; and sister: Margaret (husband William) Decker.
Survived by wife of 72 years, Gladys V. (Firle) Hemmings; children: Sandra Caton (late Gene Caton); Michael Hemmings and wife Violet; Cathy Mast and husband Dan; and Becky Lepley and husband Paul; 7 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren.
He was a Korean War Army veteran. He was a lifetime member of the Salisbury American Legion, Post 459.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Summit Mills Grace Brethren Church. Viewing will also be held from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Wednesday at Summit Mills Grace Brethren Church, where funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Pastor Gabe Yoder officiating. Interment Lichty Cemetery, Summit Mills. Military honors will be held at the church, conducted by the Somerset Co. Honor Guard.
