Gnagey
Rev. Ray E. Gnagey, 99, of Meyersdale, went to be with the Lord on March 10, 2018 at In Touch Hospice House, Somerset. Born May 29, 1918 in Summit Twp., the son of Alvin and Elsie Gnagey. Preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Glenn, Bruce, Max, and Clay Gnagey, Merle Murphy; and sister: Helen Fike.
Survived by his wife of 67 years, Marie; daughters: Carolyn Sharkey and husband Tim, Virginia Beach, VA; and Amy Dixon and husband Ernest, Houston, TX; grandchildren: Lee (Dionne), Michael (Joni), Ian (Kristen), and Ryan (Samantha); great grandchildren: Michael Jr., Maxwell, Macy, Teaghan, and Liam; and brother: Guy Gnagey, Meyersdale.
He was a WWII U.S. Army veteran, and a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, and from Pittsburgh Xenia Theological Seminary, which is now the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. He began his career in 1954 and served the following United Methodist charges: Somerset, Sarver, Clearfield, Big Run, New Brighton, and he retired as Pastor Emeritus from the First United Methodist Church, Meyersdale. He loved to garden and work on cars.
Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Price Funeral Service, Meyersdale. Viewing from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, Meyersdale, with Rev. Jim Fish, Rev. Jeri Penrod, and Rev. Mardiann Vincent officiating. Interment St. John’s (Temple) Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Somerset County Honor Guard at the church.
Memorial contributions may be given to In Touch Hospice or St. John’s United Methodist Church, Meyersdale.
