John Henry Smith

John Henry Smith, age 79, died at Rest Assured Residential Living on Sunday, September 11, 2016.  He was born in Glencoe, October 16th, 1936.  He was the eighth of fifteen children, born to the late Harry and Mabel (Dively) Smith.   He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Peggy (Musser) Smith. 

He is survived by his five children: Larry Smith and his wife Karen, Tim Smith and his wife Deb, Tom Smith and his wife Tracey, Dean Smith and his wife Becky, all of Meyersdale, and Becky wife of Kevin Cranford, Carrollton, Georgia; grandchildren: Dan Smith and his wife Heather, Christie, wife of Erik Schafer, April Hawkins, wife of Dave, Tanner and his wife, Beth, Ty, Matthew, Patrick and his wife Julia Smith and Dustin (deceased) and Olivia Cranford; great-grandchildren: Nathan and Kyle Smith, Ethan, Emily and Evan Schafer, Eva Escalet, Ethan, Adalynn, and Liam Smith

John was the brother of: Harry Smith (deceased), James Smith (deceased), Herbert Smith, Ruth Hutzel, Ethel Donges, Carl Smith (deceased), Hazel (Kate) Tomlinson, Robert Smith (deceased), Arlene Gallagher, Dorothy Leister, Nancy Miller, Kenneth Smith, Thomas Smith, and infant brother William Smith (deceased)and many beloved nieces and nephews.

John retired after 30 years of service from US Steel Corporation working at both McKeesport and Johnstown operations.  Never truly retiring, he worked as a bus driver for Klink and Stewart’s bus companies and as a handy man, painter, and tree trimmer.

He was a long standing member of the Meyersdale Grace Brethren Church serving on both the official board and the bus ministry.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing, spending time outdoors on his farm in Glencoe, and being with his family.  The family would like to thank the staff at Rest Assured Residential Living and ViaQuest Hospice for the great care they provided.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Price Funeral Service, Meyersdale. Viewing will be from 10 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Meyersdale Grace Brethren Church, with Rev. Randy Haulk officiating. Interment Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to AWANA, c/o Meyersdale Grace Brethren Church.
