Helen S. Zimmerman, 89, of Meyersdale, died August 16, 2015 at In Touch Hospice House. Born June 30, 1926, in Meyersdale, the daughter of James and Viola (Nicholson) Swearman. She is preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Miriam Bodes.

Helen is survived by her husband of 67 years, Donald E. Zimmerman; son, Randy K. and wife Debra; and granddaughter, Nina.

She attended Glade City School and is a graduate of Meyersdale High School.

Helen married Donald in 1948 at the Frostburg Reform Church, and they honeymooned at Niagara Falls. She worked at Reese Drug Store, Swank Hardware, and Horchner’s Dairy Bar.  She retired from Meyersdale Area Schools in 1990, where she was a cafeteria worker. Helen was a lifetime member of Amity United Church of Christ, Meyersdale, where she sang in the choir for many years. She loved to garden, work in her yard, go on bus trips, and complete search-a-word puzzles. Helen also enjoyed going out to eat and watching the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers.

Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Price Funeral Home, Meyersdale, where service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday with Rev. Harold Garlick and Rev. Connie Garlick officiating. Interment Reformed Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to Amity United Church of Christ or In Touch Hospice.
