Virginia Ruth "Ginny" (Yutzy) Polenski went home to be with Jesus on May 23, 2024, at the age of 96. Virginia is preceded in death by her parents: John and Pearl Yutzy; 8 sisters: Darlene Ohler, Dorothy Wheeler, Lottie Klink, Nancy Kochasic, Audrey Hoover, Jeanie Decker, Peggy Haer, and Emma Grace James; and beloved husband, Tony Polenski. She is survived by her 4 children: John Polenski, Darlene (Husband Tom) Murray, Mark (Wife Terri) Polenski, and Grace Knighton; 9 grandchildren: Eric, Amanda, Jon, Brian, Dawn, Anthony, Jessica, Lindsey, and Jack; 15 great-grandchildren: Isabella, Olivia, Jayden, Natalie, Destyn, Leah, Anthony, Rachel, Tyler, Isabella, Hannah, Grace, Lily, Benjamin, Layne and Raylan; and two great-great grandsons: Kameron and Ryker; and many nieces, nephews, and special friends: Linda, Shawna, and Trish from New Jersey.
Virginia grew up in Garrett, Pennsylvania. After marrying the love of her life, Tony, and starting a family in Ohio, the Polenski's returned to Virginia's hometown of Garrett. There, she and her husband owned and operated their own restaurant, Dar's Wagon Wheel, for many years. Virginia was famous for her coconut crème pies. Through her restaurant, she served the community and local coal miners and provided meals on wheels for the homebound. Virginia was an active member of Garrett United Methodist Church.
Virginia was a hard-working mother and loving grandmother. You could always find frog décor in her home, as she loved frogs because it stood for "Fully Rely On God". Her favorite color was yellow. Her guilty pleasures were coca cola, Days of our Lives, and anything sweet. As a grandmother, Virginia enjoyed baking potato candy for her grandchildren and sending them $2 bills in holiday cards. She loved doing puzzles and spending the holidays and special occasions with her family.
In her sunset years, Virginia enjoyed endless Hallmark movies, getting her nails polished, and visits from family. She loved playing Bingo, Yahtzee, and doing word searches- she was still finding words at 96 years of age. Virginia loved having her room decorated for every holiday by her daughter, Grace, and she was loved by the staff at her nursing home, Our Lady of Hope, for her complimentary and playful personality. Special thanks to the caring nurses and CNA's at Our Lady of Hope in Henrico, VA, for caring for Virginia until her last day.
Virginia loved the Lord and took solace in knowing He was watching over her and her loved ones. Virginia's favorite Bible verse was John 14:2-3: "In my Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to myself; that where I am, there you may be also." Virginia is now resting peacefully in her Father's house.
Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Wednesday at Garrett United Methodist Church, where the funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. following visitation. Interment Highland Cemetery, Garrett.
