Duerring

Ronald Lee Duerring Sr., 70, of Garrett, died March 1, 2016 at Golden Living Center, Meyersdale. Born October 1, 1945, in Pittsburgh, the son of Harold Duerring Sr. and Clara Madalyn (Hallbauer) Duerring. Preceded in death by his parents; son: Ronald Lee Duerring II; and brother: Harold Duerring Jr.

Survived by his wife, the Cindy (Becker) Duerring; children: Desirae Duerring, Garrett; and Michelle Colaizzi and Ronald “Tony” Duerring, both of Pittsburgh; grandchildren: Ariyanah, Braedon, and Caius; brothers: Kenneth and wife Bertha, Garrett and Dennis and wife Cheryl, Gray; and sister: Donna Phillips and husband Robert, Gray. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a founder of VVA 587, Past Post Commander of American Legions 181, 445, and 112; Charter member of the Legion Riders Post 181 and S.A.L. Post 181, and Post 445; Past District Commander for Somerset/Fayette Counties; and Commander of VFW Post 3504. He was also Past President of the Garrett Borough council for many years. His achievements were great, he was a veterans advocate and would do everything he could to help his fellow brothers and sisters.

Ron enjoyed camping, fishing, spending time with his grandkids, and playing poker on Friday nights.  He has touched so many people in his life, but what he would want people to remember most is to “Thank a Vet.”

Friends will be received 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Price Funeral Service, Meyersdale, where service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday. Military Honors by the Somerset Co. Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in his name to the Wounded Warrior Project.
