Roberta Simone Shockey, 88, of Meyersdale, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 18, 2026 retaining love and memories of a life devoted to faith, family and service to others.
Born on July 4, 1937, in Meyersdale, Pennsylvania, Roberta "Bobbie" lived a life marked by compassion, dedication and quiet strength. For 24 years, she faithfully served as the school nurse for the Meyersdale Area School District, caring for generations of students with kindness and unwavering commitment. Her nurturing spirit extended far beyond the school walls as she continued serving her community in retirement through the Meyersdale Ambulance Association as an EMT.
Roberta was a devoted member of Amity United Church of Christ, where she found great joy singing in the church choir and participating in Bible Study. Her faith guided her life and inspired the gentle generosity she shared with others.
A proud graduate of Meyersdale Joint School District's Class of 1955, Roberta was an honor student whose talent and leadership shone brightly. She served as editor of the Hi-Point yearbook, participated in marching band and chorus and was honored as Maple Princess. Following high school, she attended Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh earning her Registered Nurse Degree in 1957. She later furthered her education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Throughout her life, Roberta remained deeply involved in her community. She was active in Eastern Star, the Red Hat Club, Card Club, the Somerset County School Nurse's Association and the Casselman Valley Choral Society. Wherever she served, she brought warmth, laughter, wisdom and a caring heart that left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, Donald C. Shockey, her parents, Carl H. Grove and Nellie Y. Grove, and countless cherished friends and loved ones who welcomed her home.
Roberta is survived by her loving children: Jeff (Debra) Shockey, Kim (Brad) McLaughlin, and Richard (Irene) Shockey. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Chelsa McLaughlin (Tony) Polonia, Jamie Shockey (Benton) Wainscott, Austin (Stephanie) Shockey, Madison McLaughlin (Chad) Duran, Carston (Winter) Shockey, Landon Shockey and McKenna Shockey. She also leaves behind her treasured great grandchildren: Noah Polonia, Boone Wainscott, Amelia Wainscott, Peyton Shockey and her beloved Labrador, Cassie.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to special friends, Belinda Valentine, Paul Sanner, Connie Murray, and the caring staff of Patriot Village and ViaQuest Hospice for their compassion, friendship and devoted care.
Though deeply missed, Roberta's legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched through her kindness, service and love. Her life stands as a beautiful reminder that compassion leaves an enduring mark on the world, and that a caring heart continues to shine long after it is gone.
A private memorial service will be held at Greenville Lutheran Church.
