Rita G. (Garlitz) O'Neil

Rita G. O’Neil, 85, of Meyersdale, died May 24, 2020 at Meyersdale Healthcare and Rehabilitation. Born August 3, 1934 in Elk Lick Twp., the daughter of Ernest and Nellie (Hemmings) Garlitz. Preceded in death by her parents; sister: Alberta Shumaker and her husband, John C. “Jim” Shumaker; and brother: E. Leroy Garlitz and his wife Mona Lee Garlitz.

Survived by her husband, of 63 years, W. Dean O’Neil; brothers-in-law: Eugene O’Neil and Ken O’Neil; sisters-in-law: Emma Jean O’Neil and Lynnie O’Neil; nieces and nephews: Tammy and Jeff Hoover, Heidi O’Neil, Michael S. O’Neil, Ryan and Jacque O’Neil, Roger O’Neil, Brenda Kern, Brad (Tammy) Garlitz, Gregg (Nancy) Garlitz, Carol Shuck, Wade (Jane) Shumaker, John (Elizabeth) Shumaker Jr., and Carlene Shumaker.

She was a 1952 graduate of Salisbury Elk Lick High School. She married W. Dean O’Neil September 15, 1956, and lived in Germany with him while he served in the United States Army. Rita was employed at G. C. Murphy’s and H.J. Beamer Ford and was a partner and officer with her husband Dean at Dean O’Neil Ford Inc. until her retirement in 1999. She was a long time member of Salisbury Church of the Brethren before she became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Glen Savage.
