Jessie C. (Cross) Shirley

Jessie C. Shirley, 98, passed away on November 16, 2021 at Rest Assured Living Center, Meyersdale, PA. Born March 15, 1923 on the family farm in Sand Patch near Meyersdale, Jessie was the daughter of John and Mary Margaret (Shockey) Cross.
Preceded in death by her parents; husband Jonathan Shirley; sisters Margaret Williams, Mary Reeder and Ada Doriguzzi; brother John Cross; son Jonathan Shirley Jr; stepson John Shirley; and stepdaughters Juanita Devault and Mary Jo Lakin.
She is survived by her son Joseph and grandchildren Alan Shirley (Cathy), Sandra Suttle (Greg), Diane Hughes (Michael), Cheryl Smith (Stephen), Rachael Schwartz and John Lakin.
Jessie graduated from Meyersdale High School (1940); Catherman's Business School, Cumberland, MD; and attended classes at Fenn College, Cleveland, OH. She worked as a secretary early in her career and as a tax preparer later. After marriage she lived in Cleveland, OH; Indianapolis, IN; Niagara Falls, NY; and New Haven, CT before returning to the Meyersdale area. She enjoyed flying, earning a pilot's license, gardening, reading and traveling with her sisters.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. Friday at Price Funeral Service, Meyersdale, where service will be conducted at 11 a.m. with Rev. Tom Horner officiating. Inurnment Grace Cemetery at White Oak. The family requests those attending please wear a mask.
