Herbert "Herb" L. Long, 72, of Meyersdale, went to be with the Lord on March 6, 2023 at his home. Born February 23, 1951in Somerset, the son of late Clyde O. and Blanche K. (Kimmel) Long. Survived by his wife of 45 years, Carolyn "Susie" Long; sons: Chad Long and wife Nicole; Todd Long and wife Rachel; grandchildren: Eva, Noelle, Lilliana and Juliet; Also survived by his siblings: Wayne Long and wife Paula, David Long, Carol Bowman and husband Wendell, Tom Long and wife Barbara, and Owen Long and wife Cindi.
He was a 1969 graduate of Shanksville High School, and a graduate of Lock Haven University, where he obtained his bachelor's degree in elementary education. Herb attended California University of Pennsylvania for his certification in special education. After college, he was an explosive engineer for 20 years. Following that career, he worked for 20 years at the Meyersdale Area School District, as a special education and elementary school teacher, where he retired in 2014.
A member of Meyersdale Church of the Brethren, where he was Sunday school superintendent, deacon, and a member of the men's chorus. He enjoyed being a coach and umpire for many years for varsity baseball and softball, junior legion, and little league.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Price Funeral Service, Meyersdale. Viewing from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Friday where service will be conducted at 11 a.m. following visitation at Meyersdale Church of the Brethren, with Pastor Eric Shaulis and Pastor Mike Swick officiating. Interment Meyersdale Area Union Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Friends of Compassion at Meyersdale Church of the Brethren, 9 Beachley St., Meyersdale, PA 15552.
