Herbert C. Hornig Jr., 78, of Meyersdale, went to be with the Lord February 14, 2022 and he will be missed by his beloved family and friends. Born July 17, 1943 in Meyersdale, the son of Herbert C. and Dorothy (Johns) Hornig Sr.
Preceded in death by his parents; and daughter-in-law: Polly (Zerfoss) Hornig.
Survived by his wife of 58 years, Nancy (Walker) Hornig; children: Rick Hornig, Mifflinburg; Marcie McDermott and husband Chris, Hooversville; grandchildren: Matthew C. McDermott, Hooversville, Erin E. Burk and husband Eric, Boswell; Zachary Hornig, Philadelphia; Joshua Hornig and wife Nikki; Nicholas Hornig; and Benjamin Hornig, all of Mifflinburg; great granddaughter: Elysia McDermott; siblings: Jack Johns and wife Helen, Salisbury; Libby Sumter and husband Tom, Perkasie; David Hornig and wife Beth, Meyersdale; and nephew: Drew Sumter, New Jersey.
1962 graduate of Meyersdale High School. A member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church; B.P.O.E. Lodge No. 1951, where he was past exalted ruler; Masonic Lodge 554 F&AM, Harrisburg Consistory; Meyersdale American Legion Post 112; Maple Leaf Rod and Gun Club; and life member of Meyersdale Volunteer Fire Department.
Herb was an avid sports fan, especially NASCAR, Pittsburgh Steelers and Penguins, and he enjoyed hunting. Anyone who met Herb became a fast friend and left with a smile. His laughter was contagious and his jokes are legendary and he will be missed forever.
Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Friday, February 18, 2022 at Price Funeral Service, Meyersdale. An Elks memorial service will begin at 11:30 a.m. Friday. Memorial service will be conducted at Noon, following the visitation, with Rev. Dr. David Williams officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Humane Society of Somerset County, P.O. Box 182, Somerset, PA 15501.
