Hattie Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Spence formerly of Meyersdale died February 17, 2023 at the Goodwill Retirement Community, Grantsville, Maryland, where she resided since October of 2019. Born September 26, 1922 she celebrated her 100th birthday this past year. A daughter of the late Austin and Thelma (Warnick) Kamp, Betty was predeceased by James Oliver Spence, her husband of 59 years. She is survived by her son James Edward Spence and his wife Kathy (Fay) and her granddaughter Andrea Fay Spence all of Johnson City, Tennessee. She is also survived by her loving sister Shirley (Kamp) Bender of Grantsville, Maryland, as well as, many nieces and nephews.
Betty was a graduate of Granstsville (MD) High School, Class of 1940. She was a life-long member of the Amity United Church of Christ in Meyersdale, PA. In her later years she enjoyed books, bingo, and bus trips.
Memorials can be directed to the Meyersdale Public Library, 210 Center Street, Meyersdale, PA 15552 in the form of a book(s) or donation.
