Burt

Harold L. Burt, 72, of Meyersdale, died July 15, 2014 at Martinsburg VA Medical Center, Martinsburg, West Virginia. Born May 1, 1942 in Meyersdale, the son of Oscar L. and Rhea C. (Hornig) Burt. Preceded in death by his parents; brothers: William and Daniel; and sisters: Betty Lois and Emelie Slack.

Survived by his wife of 52 years, Bessie (Bowman) Burt; special nephews: Philip and Daniel Burt; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A 1960 graduate of Meyersdale Area High School. Harold was a United States Army Vietnam veteran, where he served in the 1st Infantry Division 1st Battalion, 16th Infantry, and later in the 9th Infantry Division 5th Battalion, 60th Infantry Company C, where he was the 3rd Platoon Sergeant. He also served with the PA Army National Guard 28th MP Company, Johnstown. He worked for Riggs Industries, Somerset for 38 years and was an EMT with the Meyersdale Area Ambulance Association.

Harold was a member of the Main Street Brethren Church, Meyersdale and the Meyersdale American Legion; life member of the Meyersdale Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as past President and past Chief; and the past Commander of the Meyersdale VFW.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 12 p.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Price Funeral Home, Meyersdale, with Pastor Eric Shaulis officiating. Interment Meyersdale Area Union Cemetery.
