Grace Imogene Murray, 87, known to many as "Jeannie," died July 4, 2021 at Meadow View Nursing Center in Berlin where she resided for six years. She was surrounded by her family.
Grace was born on November 30, 1933 in Meyersdale, the daughter of William and Hilda (Brown) Swindell. She was preceded in death by her husband John, whom she married in 1952, both of her parents, and her brothers Jim and Bill.
She is survived by her only son Michael and his wife Jackie, and two granddaughters, Jennifer and Brittany, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
She enjoyed reading, baking, eating her favorite ice cream and Milky Ways, and being around animals, particularly horses. Above all, she cherished time with her family. She was most likely to be seen in the audience of sporting events or dance recitals supporting her granddaughters who were truly the center of her world. She lived fully, loved freely, and will forever be in the hearts of her family.
Grace attended the Meyersdale Area High School and later worked as an employee of the Snyder's of Berlin chip factory. She and her husband, John, owned and operated Teen Town on Clay Street in Meyersdale during the 1970s. She was a member of the Meyersdale Church of the Brethren and a long-time supporter of the Meyersdale Public Library.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Interim Hospice in Johnstown.
In accordance with Grace's wishes, there will not be any funeral or services. A private graveside burial will be held for immediate family at Union Cemetery in Meyersdale. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to the Meyersdale Public Library or to the Alzheimer's Association at
