Floyd Oliver Brant Obituary

Floyd Oliver Brant passed away peacefully on Tuesday the 31st of March at the age of 92 in the Meadowview Nursing Home, Berlin Pa.
Floyd was born on November 9th 1933, to Clarence Earl Brant and Sarah Jane (Finley) Brant in Brothersvalley Township, Somerset County.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Clarence and Sarah (Finley)Brant, brothers: Clarence (Blaine) Brant and Clark Brant, sisters: Rose Lindeman, Thelma Brown and grandson: Christopher Brant.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 70 years Elizabeth Joann (Johnson) Brant; children: Debra Klotz & husband Robert Klotz, Gregory Brant and wife Cynthia, and Brian Brant; Grandchildren: Elizabeth Brant, Dustin Klotz, Sarah & Natalie Brant; Great grandchildren: Kennedy, Colin and Kari Brant, Cassidy and Conner Klotz; Great-great grandchildren Gavin and Logan Sutton.
Floyd grew up on the Brant farm near the former Piney Run golf course. After graduating from Berlin High School, he enlisted in the US Navy where he trained as a hard-hat diver and served on a destroyer-escort stationed out of San Diego Ca., while serving on his ship he traveled extensively throughout the Pacific Theater. He married Elizabeth Joann Johnson of Rockwood in 1955 and they returned to Pennsylvania. After leaving the Navy he joined the Carpenters union and eventually became a Millwright helping to build and supervise as a Foreman much of the industrial infrastructure and power plants in Western Pa. and surrounding states.
He was active in his church, the Grace United Church of Christ in Garrett, since1964 and also in many community organizations. He served as Commander of the Meyersdale VFW in the mid-seventies, active member of the Meyersdale Elks for many years, and was a member of the Meyersdale Masonic Lodge.
He loved gardening and was known for his large heirloom tomato's affectionately known as "Floyd's Big Boys", he also enjoyed his family and providing a loving home for them.
Floyd was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who left his family a wonderful legacy of family, love, integrity and commitment who will be greatly missed.
Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 3, and from Noon until 1 p.m. Saturday, April 4, at Price Funeral Service, Inc., Meyersdale, where the funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. following visitation.
