Edith Esther “Edie” (Gonzalez) Werner, 80, of Meyersdale passed away February 20, 2020 at home surrounded by her loving family.
Born March 24, 1939 in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, the daughter of Antonia Gomez Gonzalez.
Edie came to the United States in 1948 to Baltimore, Maryland. At that time, she only spoke Spanish but she was speaking fluent English six months later. Edie believed this was her greatest accomplishment.
In 1957, she graduated from Western High School. She worked at Fort Holabird, Johns Hopkins University and Clapper Industries after she moved to Meyersdale. Edie was a lifelong bowler, starting with duckpins and progressing to ten pins, and bowled in different leagues in the Baltimore area and the senior league in Cumberland. She also loved to sew and make flower arrangements. She was a member of Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church.
Edie is preceded in death by her mother; husbands: Paul Tinker and Dale Clapper; son, Mark Tinker; brother: Victor Gonzalez; sister: Carmen Tinker; and daughter in law: Karen (Gray) Tinker. She is survived by her husband, Barry Werner; son: Kenneth Tinker; and Barry, Jeff, and Cary Werner.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, February 29, 2020 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at Mt. Carmel Lutheran Church, Meyersdale. Rev. Glenn P. Foster officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.
