Donald E. Zimmerman, 95, of Meyersdale, went to be with the Lord on December 22, 2023 at UPMC Shadyside. Born January 7, 1928 in Meyersdale, the son of Pius and Velma (Wisler) Zimmerman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 67 years, Helen S. (Swearman) Zimmerman; brothers: Paul and William Zimmerman; and sister: Dorothy Sechler.
He is survived by his son: Randy K. Zimmerman and wife Debra; granddaughter: Nina Zimmerman and significant other Brendan Wilt; sister: Marcella Kimble; and sister-in-law: Phyllis Zimmerman. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Donald attended Salisbury High School and was an United States Army Air Corps veteran. Don and Helen were married in Frostburg Reform Church in 1948 and honeymooned in Niagara Falls. He worked for Horchner Farm Service, McClure's Service Station, Queen City Dairy, and retired in 1990 from Mayfair Creamery. Don was a lifetime member of Amity UCC, where he served as a deacon and elder, and was a member of the Reformed Cemetery committee. He was also a longtime member of the Meyersdale American Legion, Post 112.
He loved to hunt, fish, garden, travel, and watch the Pittsburgh Pirates, Steelers, and Penguins and NASCAR. He also helped organize the Glade City community picnic for 20 years. Donald was proud to have articles recently published in BackTracks and Pennsylvania Game News. He was loved by everyone he met and will be greatly missed.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Price Funeral Service, Meyersdale where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. Rev. Dave Klink officiating. Military honors will be presented at the funeral home by the Somerset County Honor Guard. Interment Reformed Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Amity UCC or the Reformed Cemetery Fund.
