Donald J. Walukas, 84, of Meyersdale, passed away March 5, 2022 at Goodwill Retirement Community, Grantsville, Md. Born March 24, 1937 in South Fork, the son of George Walukas and Elizabeth (Gudenas) Walukas.
Preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Barbara (Lint) Walukas; 11 half siblings.
Survived by his wife, Pamela (Chalker) Walukas; three children: Elizabeth, wife of Ray Louis, Lummi Island, WA; Joel Walukas, Albuquerque, N.M.; and Matthew Walukas, and his wife Kristin, Eau Claire, WI; stepchildren: Nathan and wife Annie; Lauren and Rachel; grandchildren: Julia, Hannah, Max, Emily, Jackie, Annika, Kailyn, Olivia, and Casey; and great grandson: R.J.
He graduated from University of Pittsburgh with BS(59), MS(62), and PhD(70) in Mechanical Engineering. His career spanned multiple organizations including Westinghouse Research, Oak Ridge National Laboratories, The Gas Research Institute, The National Center for Manufacturing Sciences, and Concurrent Technology Corporation where he was active in engineering and management of research.
Don was active civically in the Meyersdale Area where he was former President of the Meyersdale Borough Council and Meyersdale Area Union Cemetery. He also served on The Meyersdale Municipal Authority, The Somerset County Redevelopment Authority, the Pennsylvania Maple Festival Board, Judge of Elections, the Meyersdale Hospital Board, BPOE #1951, the Meyersdale Lions Club, and was a volunteer and mentor in Meyersdale Public Schools. Don was a member of SS. Philip & James Catholic Church, Meyersdale, and sang with the Amity United Church of Christ choir.
Per Don's wishes, his body was donated to West Virginia University for medical research. Visitation will be held Friday April 1, 2022, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Price Funeral Service, Meyersdale. A memorial service will held Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 11 a.m. at the Meyersdale Elks Lodge, 327 Dale Street, Meyersdale. At the request of the family, masks are recommended.
