Dawn E. Hornig, 86, of Meyersdale, passed away January 23, 2024 at UPMC Western Maryland, after a brief illness.

Born May 6, 1937 in Meyersdale, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Tipton) Schrock.
Preceded in death by her parents; husband, John "Jake" Hornig; daughter: Gail Hornig; and brothers: Sonny, Dickey, and Thomas Schrock.

She is survived by her daughter: Barbara Sparr and husband Leroy; son: John Hornig and wife Sue; grandchildren: Chelsea Hoover, Chloe Thomas and husband Nathan, and Sandy Byerly and husband Craig; great grandchildren: Preston, Brielle, Freya and Mira. Also survived by sisters-in-law: Ada (Hornig) Saylor and Alice (Hornig) Fiery (Bill); and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was on the cafeteria staff at Meyersdale Area Schools for many years, where she also was a cheerleading coach. Dawn was a member of the Meyersdale Church of the Brethren, where she was active in the church choir, directing the Christmas and Easter dramas, served as chairman of music and worship commission, a member of the Greasy Spoons, and helped serve numerous banquets. She helped care for her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and several family members. Her laugh was infectious and will be greatly missed.

Friends will be received from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday at Price Funeral Service, Meyersdale, where funeral service will begin at 3 p.m. following visitation. Pastor Eric Shaulis officiating. Interment Meyersdale Area Union Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be given to the Meyersdale Church of the Brethren, 9 Beachley St., Meyersdale, PA 15552.
