David Edward Faidley, Sr., 87, reunited with his wife, Ruth Azetta Faidley and the Good Lord on August 24, 2024. David has longed to be with the love of his life, Ruth, since her passing on June 24, 2014. David was born on October 15, 1936 in Summit Mills, the son of Leonard and Iva Faidley.
David is preceded in death by his parents, siblings Paul Faidley and Nancy Deitke, and a baby sister who passed shortly after birth. He is also preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Charles and Amanda Bowman, along with two brothers-in-law: Vernon and Charles (Sonny) Bowman and daughter-in-law: Pamela Faidley.
David and Ruth married on August 1, 1958. They were blessed with three children: David Jr. (Barbara) Faidley, Robert (the late Pamela) Faidley and Christine Brant. Their three children blessed them with six grandchildren who David adored. He was proud of his six grandchildren: Robert Faidley Jr.(Amanda Blake), Celeste (Joshua) Decker, Caitlin (Andrew) Shroyer, Jeremy (Jessica) Faidley, Richard (Amanda) Brant, and Kayla Faidley (Josh Arnold). David enjoyed spending time and being entertained by his ten great-grandchildren: Brock Faidley and Braxton Shroyer, Waylon and Addilyn Decker, Mya, Gavin and baby girl Arnold, Tucker and Madison Faidley, Nash Brant, and Adria Spehr. He is also survived by a brother-in-law, Raymond Deitke.
David graduated from the Pennsylvania State Police Academy. David was the first police officer in Somerset County to attend the Pennsylvania State Police Academy's Municipal Training Academy in Hershey, PA. He took pride in his career as the Meyersdale Borough Police Chief. After retiring from law enforcement, David worked for Penn Pocahontas Coal Company for many years. As David got older, he desired a change of pace in the work field. He went on to drive school buses, worked for the janitorial staff and security for Meyersdale School District, before officially retiring in 2004. He thoroughly enjoyed his careers and would often talk about them.
David enjoyed sitting on his porch where he watched over his neighborhood and bird watched. He loved talking with his neighbors. He spent countless hours on his porch talking with his close friend, Wib. David took pride in his large garden that he enjoyed doing every year. He loved going for rides and enjoyed listening to music from his generation. David was the happiest when his family was around.
David recently was honored to receive recognition for 65 years of service from the Meyersdale Volunteer Fire Department. He served on the Meyersdale Ambulance Association for many years, where he served as a charter member. He was proud of the Meyersdale community.
David's family would like to extend a huge thank you to these wonderful individuals who helped care for him: Carol, Tammy, Dee, Chloe and Monica. Their countless hours and love towards David was greatly appreciated. Thank you to Heartland Hospice, especially David's nurse, Andy, for taking such great care of him. Thank you to Ashley for her countless hours of spending time with David.
David's sweet soul and contagious smile will greatly be missed by all that knew him.
Family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. Thursday, at Price Funeral Service, Inc., Meyersdale, where funeral service will be conducted following visitation at 4 p.m. Pastor Gabe Yoder officiating. Interment Lichty Cemetery, Summit Mills. Memorial contributions may be given in his name to the Meyersdale Volunteer Fire Department.
