Rodney L. Howsare

Rodney Lee “Rodster” Howsare,50, was called to Heaven to be with his parents and special friends Alf, Shane and Michael on October 4, 2019. He was born in Meyersdale where he spent most of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Phyllis Howsare and several very special friends that he never stopped thinking about. Rodney is survived by his brother Denny and wife Judy of Meyersdale, sister Christine Crutchley of Jefferson Md, nieces Bree Yoder and husband Randy, Chalyce Boyer and husband Austin all of Meyersdale,  and Autumn Crutchley of Jefferson Md., nephews Paul “ Buddy” Howsare and wife Erin of Quecreek and Connor Crutchley of Jefferson Md, great nephews Xander Howsare and Cole Yoder and his side kick dog, Pierre.

Rodney was a 1987 graduate of Meyersdale Area High School where he was a proud member of the Red Raider Football Team. He worked several jobs before becoming a valued employee of Gilmore Mfg, where he worked until they closed. He was currently the warehouse manger of ITI Trailers and Truck Bodies Inc of Meyersdale. He was a member of the Brooklyn Hunting Camp, Meyersdale Moose Lodge #76, Club member of the GVFD, Sons of the American Legion of Rockwood Pa., and many other organizations during his lifetime.

Rodney loved racing and was an avid NASCAR fan when his favorite driver, Dale Earnhart was king of the track. He was a proud member of the Swamp Creek Racing Team for many years and loved spending time with his friends. Rodney was an excellent pool shooter and a member of Fran’s Pool team. He enjoyed hunting and spending time at the Brooklyn Hunting Camp. During recent years, he loved to play golf with his friends and was a member of the Thursday Night Golf League at his favorite course, Winnfield, that he fondly called the “Cow Pasture.” One of his favorite events of the year was an annual golf trip with friends to South Carolina. During the last year, he especially enjoyed spending time with family at home with his dog.

 Rodney had a zest for life and lived it in his own way. Despite his deep voice and intimidating build, he was dearly loved by every child that knew him, especially his nieces and nephews. It was a brief but tough battle with cancer, and he fought bravely right up to the very end. He wanted to make sure that I expressed how overwhelmed and appreciative he was to all the friends, family, medical personnel and facilities for all their prayers, care and support during his illness. A special “Thank You” to Rev. Dave Klink who provided beautiful words of comfort during his final day. There will not be a viewing. There will be a Celebration of Rodney’s life on November 2 at the Meyersdale American Legion at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m and a meal of fellowship will follow the service. Expressions of sympathy may be sent in care of Denny Howsare 208 Meyers Ave Meyersdale, Pa 15552.
