Hetz
Melvin Hetz, Jr. 88, of Meyersdale, passed away peacefully in his sleep September 20, 2018 at his home. Born July 18, 1930 in Boynton, he was the son of Melvin F. and Alice H. (Winebrenner) Hetz. Preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Harrison, Charles, Kenneth, and Marvin; sisters: Helen, Naomi Jane Hotchkiss, and Margaret Sager.
Survived by loving wife of 64 years, Nancy E. (Greig) Hetz; children: Kathleen (Richard) Petenbrink, Wellersburg; Melvin II (Dana) Hetz, Margaret (Paul) Riley, and James D. Hetz, all of Meyersdale; grandchildren: Richard Petenbrink Jr. (Amanda), Melvin M. (Rebecca) Hetz, Stephen (Danielle) Hetz, Matthew (Clarissa) Riley, Nicole (Brad) Walters, Justin (Melissa) Platt; great grandchildren: Bryson, Jacob, Jaxon, and Briella Hetz, Leahana Walters, and Kenleigh Platt, Kobe Platter, Alena and Andrew Kucharczyk. Also survived by brothers: Raymond and Marshall; sisters: Mary V. Murray, Dorothy Krause, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Melvin was a Korean War Army veteran, where he was wounded and received a Purple Heart. He was a truck driver for many years and drove for his brother, Harrison, Ponfeigh Coal Company, Penn Pocahontas, and Croner, Inc. He also worked at Ford Motor Plant, Cleveland, Ohio. He was known to all on the C.B. as “Sam Jack”. After his retirement he continued driving and delivering trucks for I.T.I. Melvin loved working in his garage and helping others. He also loved his Fords and John Deere Tractors. Jr. had a great sense of humor and was always kidding around with his many friends.
Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Price Funeral Service, Meyersdale, where funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, with Pastor Randy Haulk officiating. Interment Meyersdale Area Union Cemetery.
