Jeanne K. (Keener) Cross

Jeanne K. Cross, 91, of Meyersdale, died June 16, 2019 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. Born April 15, 1928 in Lancaster, the daughter of Dr. David James and Bertha (Hess) Keener.

Preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dr. John C. Cross; brother: John Keener; sister: Jane Tragesser and her husband, Robert Tragesser; sisters-in-law: Ada Jean Doriguzzi and Margaret Williams.

She is survived by her children: Lawrence F. Cross and wife JoAnn; Susan McIntosh and husband Thomas; grandchildren: Alyssa Cross Shulke and husband Peter, Spencer C. Cross and wife Haley; great grandchild: Harlyn Alice Shulke. Also survived by her sister-in-laws: Peggy Keener, Jessie Shirley, and Mary Lenore Reeder.

Jeanne was a graduate of McCaskey High School, Lancaster and West Chester State Teacher's College. She was a physical education and health teacher at Mercersburg, Penn Hills, Meyersdale and Salisbury School Districts. She also assisted her husband in his dental practice for 20 years.

She was a member of Amity United Church of Christ, where she served on the Consistory and sang in the choir; Jr. Women’s Club; Bowling Club; and Meyersdale Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a founding member of "The Card Club". Avid Steeler’s fan, enjoyed hunting, fishing in Canada, attending Penn State games, attending plays at the Mountain Playhouse, completing crossword puzzles and taking trips with the girls. Former board of directors for the Maple Festival and volunteer at the Sugar Shack and former board member of 4 Guys Inc. The family would like to thank her caregivers for the wonderful job they did taking care of her.

Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Price Funeral Service, Meyersdale, where service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, with Pastor Connie Garlick officiating. Inurnment Grace Cemetery at White Oak. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Amity United Church of Christ, PO Box 97, Meyersdale, PA 15552.
