Dorothy J. Hersch

Miss Dorothy J. Hersch, 79, a long-time resident of Guardian Nursing Home, Meyersdale, went to be with her Heavenly Father peacefully on October 31, 2017.  Dorothy was born June 30, 1938 to the late Herman W. Hersch and Mary Belle Cameron Hersch of Sand Patch, PA.

In addition to her parents, the following brothers and sister and their spouses predeceased her: Herman Kenneth Hersch (Mary,) William Dean Hersch, Mary Genevieve Miller (Jack), Charles Chester Hersch, Clifford Franklin Hersch (Patricia), Dale Hersch (Nancy), and Janet Louise Dickmeyer (Fred).  Also predeceased by brothers- in-law: Joseph Freas, William Dawson and Joseph Zolly; and nieces: Mary Ann Hersch and Bonnie Freas.

She is survived by the following brother and sisters and their spouses; Alice Thelma Freas, Meyersdale; Arlene Dawson, LaPlata, MD; Douglas A. Hersch (Carol), Hines, WV; Hazel Jean Zolly, Charmco, WV and Lester Allan Hersch, Meyersdale. Also survived by sister-in-law: Gertrude Hersch, Meyersdale.

In addition, she is survived by the following nieces and nephews:  Mary Louise Libengood (Larry), Meyersdale; William Miller (Karen), Meyersdale; Allen Miller (Carlen), Meyersdale; Robert Hersch (Susan), Somerset; Mary Margert Werner (Dale) Berlin;  Trudy Landis (Scott), Berlin; Deanna Thompson (JR ), Meyersdale; William Hersch (Kerry), Berlin;  JoAnn Dermer (Kenny), Hyndman; Janet Freas, Fairfax, VA; Joyce Freas, Jacksonville, FL; Cheryl Hodobe (George), Conway, SC; Alice Shroyer (Bill), Berlin; Rose Gnagey (Doug), Meyersdale; Wayne Freas, Somerset; David Freas, Meyersdale;  Vicki Stephens (Roger), Burlington, NC; Sally Miller (Roger), Meyersdale; Douglas Hersch (Lisa), Meyersdale; Ruth Ann Schaffer (Ross); Rebecca Ammar, LaPlata, MD; Molly Dickmeyer , Philadelphia, PA; Regina Rose (Doug), Hilo, HI; Douglas Hersch, Jr Phoenix, AZ; Christopher Hersch (Andrea), Phoeniz, AZ; Robert Hersch (Cynthia ) Phoeniz, AZ; and many great nieces, nephews and cousins.

Dorothy also asked that her caregivers be recognized as survivors as they were family to her. Dorothy had a kind and caring heart, a great sense of humor, lively spirit and loved her Heavenly Father.  She loved to sing, and did liquid embroidery and other crafts until she was no longer able to do so. She left a lasting impression on all who came in contact with her. 

Friends will be received from noon until time of service at 2 p.m. Saturday at Price Funeral Service, Meyersdale, with Pastor Pete Kaltenbaugh officiating. Interment White Oak Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Grace Cemetery of White Oak, for perpetual care, c/o Lee & Bonnie Miller, 233 Windrift Lane, Meyersdale, PA 15552.
