Ray W. Brown Jr., 82, of Gosnell, Arkansas, passed from this life Thursday, April 23, 2015 at NEA Baptist Hospital, Jonesboro, Arkansas.

Born in Meyersdale, the son of Ray and Blanche (Shumaker) Brown, Ray served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War and retired after 20 years of honorable service. Ray’s service continued after he retired by serving as a Deputy Sheriff for the Mississippi County Sheriff’s Department. He also served as an officer with the Gosnell Police Department, a Constable for Bowen Twp., and was a Baptist. Ray enjoyed hunting, fishing, and yardwork. One of his passions was crappie fishing. He would fish from Sardis Lake to Norfolk Lake and anywhere in between. He was very dedicated to his family, going to Norfolk Lake whenever he could to spend quality time with them. Ray was an animal lover, but no animal could ever compare to his dog, Trixie.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Kathrine “Kay” (Wells) Brown; and grandson, Nicholas Brown.

Ray is survived by his children: Raymond Brown and wife Michele, of Manila; Richard Brown, Gosnell, Arkansas; Delyn Brown, Gosnell, Arkansas; grandchildren: Brandi Brown and Jason Brown, both of Gosnell, Arkansas; and sister: Beverly Buterbaugh, Meyersdale.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Meyersdale Area Union Cemetery, with Pastor Eric Shaulis officiating.
