Jonathan Young Shirley Jr., 58, of Meyersdale, died August 9, 2017 at Western Maryland Health Systems, Cumberland, Md. Born September 20, 1958 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Jonathan Y. Shirley, and Jessie E. (Cross) Shirley, of Meyersdale.

Also preceded in death by his brother, John M. Shirley and sister, Mary Jo Lakin.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his brother, Joseph G. Shirley, Burtonsville, Md. and sister, Juanita Davault, Mt. Airy, Md.

He obtained his B.S. in Sociology from Frostburg State University and also Master’s Degree of Library Science from Kutztown University. He was the librarian at Shanksville-Stonycreek School District for 31 ½ years, where he was the advisor for the Reading Competition Teams. Mr. Shirley was a member of the Grace Reformed Independent Bible Church.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Price Funeral Service, Meyersdale, where service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, with Rev. Tom Horner officiating. Interment Grace Cemetery at White Oak. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jonathan Y. Shirley Scholarship Fund c/o Shanksville-Stonycreek School District, P.O. Box 128, Shanksville, PA 15560.
