James “Jim” Stutzman, 72, of Meyersdale, died May 1, 2017 at home on the farm he loved. Jim was born in Somerset on August 14, 1944, the son of the late Robert Charles and Leona (Bungard) Stutzman. Also preceded in death by brother-in-aw: William Yutzy.

He graduated from Penn State with a B.S. and Master’s degree in Science. He taught science at Meyersdale Area Schools, as well as Vo-Ag, until his retirement.

Jim served in the U.S. Army, Sp-5/E5 from 1962-1968.

He is survived by his wife, Doris (Miller) Stutzman, whom he married on January 1, 1967, celebrating 50 years of marriage this year. Also survived by his daughter, Rebecca “Becky” and son, Martin “Marty” and his wife Leah; grandchildren: Elijah and Lainey. They went everywhere with pap from the time they were born! Jim is also survived by sisters-in-law: Janet Yutzy, and Sally Vano and husband Andy; nieces and nephews: Brian, Kevin, Kyle, John, Julie, and Mary; and numerous cousins.

He attended Meyersdale Church of the Brethren and was active with the Brethren Disaster Relief Ministries, traveling to Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi, to name a few places.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, at Meyersdale Church of the Brethren, where a memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, with Pastor Pete Kaltenbaugh officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in his name to the District Disaster Ministries, c/o Western PA District Church of the Brethren, 115 Spring Rd., Hollsopple, PA 15935.
