James "Bev" Beverly Barmoy

October 8, 1927 ~ August 15, 2017 (age 89) 89 Years Old

James Beverly “Bev” Barmoy, Cumberland, Maryland, died on Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at Western Maryland Health Systems, Cumberland, MD following a brief illness.

James was born October 8, 1927, to Norman H. Barmoy and Mary Jane (Austin) Barmoy in Meyersdale, Pennsylvania.  James or “Bev” as he was known to most, graduated in 1955 from Meyersdale High School and immediately began a twenty-two (22) year career with the Western Maryland Railroad System as an Operator/ Train Dispatcher.  Simultaneously, he attended Allegany Community College and Frostburg State University, earning a B.S. in Education and two (2) Master’s degrees in higher education.  Upon graduation from FSU, Bev served as a Driver’s Education Instructor for the Salisbury PA High School District. Ultimately, Bev attained the position of Assistant to the Registrar at Frostburg State University where he remained employed until retirement in 1992. Bev served on the Meyersdale Maple Festival Board and directed the Annual Maple Festival Pageant, “The Legend of the Magic Water.”  He was a member of the Meyersdale Joint School Board and a lifelong member of the Amity United Church of Christ in Meyersdale, Pa.  He was an avid antique car enthusiast. Bev was devoted to his family and had a wide circle of friends who will miss him greatly.

Bev is predeceased by his parents, Norman H. and Mary Jane (Austin) Barmoy; brother; John “Jack” William Barmoy and his wife, Sally (Wilson) Barmoy; sister, Olga “Jane” Page; and nephew, Ronald Douglas Page. Bev is survived by his brother, Dr. Ronald M. Barmoy and wife, Jeanne (Frostburg, MD) brother-in-law Joseph Edmund Page (College Park, MD) Niece Mary Jane Tomlinson (Savage, MD), Niece Jackie Knauss (husband, Mike, Sitka, AK) , Nephew Robert J.Page (Hyattsville, MD), Nephew Herbie “Butch” Barmoy (wife, Chris, LaVale, MD), Niece Debra Burdette (LaVale, MD), Niece Juli Barmoy (husband, Joe, Juneau AK), Niece Ronda J. Barmoy (Frostburg, MD), Nephew Brad H. Barmoy (wife, Michele, Frostburg, MD). Bev was also a Great Uncle to eleven (11) and a Great-Great Uncle to nine (9).

Friends will be received for a celebration of life on Monday, August 21st, 2017, from 11am to 1pm, at Price Funeral Home, Meyersdale, PA. Graveside services will follow at the Meyersdale Area Union Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, a donation may be offered in memory of Bev to the Amity United Church of Christ, Meyersdale, PA or charity of choice.
